Tolerance: a Two-Way Street

This article is exactly what I was saying the other day in my post about violence against the Pope.

"How dare you say Islam is a violent religion? I'll kill you for it" is not exactly the best way to go about refuting the charge. But of course, refuting is not the point here. The point is intimidation.

In today's world, religious sensitivity is a one-way street. The rules of the road are enforced by Islamic mobs and abjectly followed by Western media, politicians and religious leaders.

Iraqi Tribes Turn on al Qaeda

September 22, 2006: Coalition forces in Iraq have suddenly received the manpower equivalent of three light infantry divisions. They did not suffer any repercussions in domestic politics as a result, and now have a huge edge over al-Qaeda in al-Anbar province. How did this happen? Tribal leaders in the largely Sunni province on the Syrian border got together and signed an agreement to raise a tribal force of 30,000 fighters to take on foreign fighters and terrorists. These leaders have thrown in with the central government in Baghdad. This is a decisive blow to al Qaeda, which has been desperately trying to fight off an Iraqi government that is getting stronger by the week. Not only are the 30,000 fighters going to provide more manpower, but these tribal fighters know the province much better than American troops – or the foreign fighters fighting for al Qaeda. Also, this represents just over 80 percent of the tribes in al-Anbar province now backing the government.

I doubt you'll see this anywhere in the U.S. media.

How do the Muslims respond? They attack churches, Al Qaeda threatens to cut off the Pope's head. Muslims in Turkey demanded the Pope be arrested. Next year, European car manufacturers will bring to the U.S. more clean diesel cars, which produce fewer fumes than conventional diesel-engine cars. Clean diesels can also run on biodiesel, producing even fewer fumes. "A clean diesel gets better mileage than a hybrid," he said.

I can't wait for more diesel options in U.S. car buying. You don't have many choices right now and most americans think diesel is that sooty foul smelling stuff semis run on.

ABC 9/11 film controversy

I was ready this news article today: 9/11 TV Film Sparks Clinton Administration Outrage So, one of the people complaining is Samuel Berger. Well, I remember a "Sandy" Berger who was the former Clinton Security Advisor but Samuel? So I look up Sandy Berger on Wikipedia and his name is actually Samuel R. "Sandy" Berger. The interesting part is that 1) the use of his name has changed from Sandy to Samuel, or maybe they always used his real first name, I just don't ever remember hearing it and 2) Sandy Berger is complaining about "bias" and "fiction" in the movie. Hmm....let's roll back the clock a bit: Sandy Berger fined $50,000 for taking documents Oh yes...it's all coming back to you know isn't it. The infamous illegal pants stuffing of national security documents, and removing them from the national archives. Oh..and don't forget the slap on the wrists punishment. IMO, this is an effort for the former Clinton Administration to rewrite history. Oh...those meetings never happened, those papers never existed, we didn't have that information. Hmm..well if former staff members were not stuffing their pants with classified documents and "losing" them, we might have a better picture of what did happen. I'm guessing the facts would be damaging to the Clinton administration though.

End of an Affair (the bogus Plame scandal)

The person that exposed Valerie Plame was not out to punish her husband o.O!

Nevertheless, it now appears that the person most responsible for the end of Ms. Plame's CIA career is Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson chose to go public with an explosive charge, claiming -- falsely, as it turned out -- that he had debunked reports of Iraqi uranium-shopping in Niger and that his report had circulated to senior administration officials. He ought to have expected that both those officials and journalists such as Mr. Novak would ask why a retired ambassador would have been sent on such a mission and that the answer would point to his wife. He diverted responsibility from himself and his false charges by claiming that President Bush's closest aides had engaged in an illegal conspiracy. It's unfortunate that so many people took him seriously.
