It is good to see Politicians embracing technology and using it. There are a few state and federal representatives that are also using blogs to connect and keep their constituents informed. Open government is a good idea and I hope more politicians embrace these new technologies.

Gates says mobile phones will overtake iPods
"As good as Apple may be, I don't believe the success of the iPod is sustainable in the long run," he said in an interview published in Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
Bill Gates is not a market visionary. Let's toss out a few bombs, Microsoft Bob, MS totally missed the Internet in its early days, Tablet PCs, Windows Media Centers, that new watch/radio technology SPOT etc.. Lots of bombs in that group. Meanwhile with Steve Jobs at the helm, Apple is everywhere. The Apple commercials are incredible, the Microsoft ones are blah. The buzz at the watercooler is the iPod, MS has nothing even close. So, when Gates talks, take what he says with a grain of salt, Microsoft is not lead by a visionary.

NASA gets new boss
New administrator Mike Griffin has apparently ridden into NASA town with guns blazing. Not surprisingly to anyone who's been following his career, he's a man in a hurry to break the nation out of the low earth orbit quagmire in which we've found (well, actually put) ourselves for the past three-plus decades, and he's not wasting any time in redirecting the space agency in what he perceives to be the best manner to do that.
Sounds like NASA is going through a real shakeup period right now. Hopefully we will see big things out of them in the future.

U.S. to spend billions more to alter security systems
In its effort to create a virtual shield around America, the Department of Homeland Security now plans to spend billions of dollars more. Although some changes are being made because of technology that has emerged in the last couple of years, many of them are planned because devices currently in use have done little to improve the nation's security, according to a review of agency documents and interviews with federal officials and outside experts.
"Everyone was standing in line with their silver bullets to make us more secure after Sept. 11," said Randall J. Larsen, a retired Air Force colonel and former government adviser on scientific issues. "We bought a lot of stuff off the shelf that wasn't effective."
This makes me feel soooooooooooo much safer, how about you?

Iowa Weather
Iowa weather is one of extremes. Negative degrees in the winter, high humidity and 90+ degrees in the summer. Although it has been mild the last few years in both winter and summer. It is May now, and our furnace is still running due to frost warnings last night. I just want it to be warm.
